Day two of my required rest due to this double ear infection! Now both my ears are completely clogged so I can't hear a darn thing. Yay. I guess that's good because the arguing and chaos of our school mornings is blissfully muffled!
Yesterday I spent the whole day resting. Yuck. Don't get me wrong - I love to cuddle up under the covers and watch some mindless TV, but being forced to is another story. The only thing I actually accompished yesterday was to draw out the quilt for my daughter. She's 10, and wants a Paris themed room in purple.
I can sew the basics - costumes, roman shades, aprons, skirts, etc, but I've never made a "real" quilt. My mother and I constructed a patchwork quilt when my oldest son was born almost 19 years ago, but we didn't actually quilt it - we tied little ribbons through all the layers to hold it all together. FAR from an actual quilt, so this experience will be brand spanking new to me! I have poured over quilting magazines and books, been to quilting stores, and have googled tons of quilts to see if I could design "the" quilt, and yesterday I think I came up with the one!
As I mentioned in post 1, I am a screen printer/bling tee maker, so I have a plotter. A plotter is a machine that I use to design whatever I'd like, then cut it out in heat press vinyl, a screen printing film, OR a rhinestone template. I recalled seeing a fabric cutting blade being available so I looked it up. Yup! I can cut FABRIC with my plotter - yay!!! I have envisioned this beautiful applique quilt with the Eiffel Tower in the center, and lots of little appliques all around it of poodles, little girls, chandeliers, and all sorts of other "Paris-y" type things. All I needed to do was figure out fabric color and placement. I whipped out my woodworking graph notebook (the one I use to figure out furniture plans) and got to work. I was hoping to post a picture of my final design, but alas, my computer issues continue and I can't. I'll post a picture if I can get this solved!
Well, it's off to rest again - have a blessed day!

Another Day in Chaos
Well, here's a problem I'm facing today: woke up with a worsening DOUBLE ear infection. I've been battling this dual infection for two weeks now, and if I had just slowed down and rested a bit I'm sure it would be gone by now! Have you ever seen that commercial where the lady is at the doc and opens her calendar and tells the doctor, "nope, being sick won't fit on my schedule"? Yeah - that's me! I have so many things on my to do list that I'll take a break for just a few short moments, then it's off to the next project!
Well, today will just have to be my day of rest. I think I'll just stay in my room, put on a few Lifetime Network movies, and just rest. Or clip coupons, or plan out that quilt I'm making for my daughter for Christmas, or go sand the laundry bin I'm working on in the garage, or....yeah. We'll see!
It's also my plan to take some snapshots of projects around here that have been started and not finished, so that I have some accountability. I'd like to make a list (with pictures!) of what has been started and how it sits today. I'll also post some pics of projects that HAVE been finished, so you can see what I like to do with my days. Have a blessed day!

My Life Is A Hodgepodge...
Welcome to my new blog! My name is Erica and I'm a stay at home/work at home mom to five gorgeous kids. My life is incredibly busy, but very fulfilling. I am always starting a new project and although I like MOST of them, I often feel like a "jack-of-all-trades", yet master at nothing. I build furniture for myself and for various clients (individuals and interior designers), I can sew, I have a screen printing/bling tee/promotional items (SMALL) business, I'm the ladies director at my church, and of course I run our home. Whew! With all these things on my plate I'm beginning to realize something's got to give!
The purpose of this blog is for me to post stories and pictures of my projects - the successes AND failures, and just be able to vent a bit. It seems like every day I start something new, which means I never get an opportunity to get really good at any one thing! So, please join me as I share the not-so-glamorous facets of my life!
